The UK Gay Men's Health Network (GMHN) aims to improve the health and wellbeing of gay men primarily by lobbying government bodies, health planners, policy makers and funders with a view to effecting structural changes.


GMHN shall:

(1) intervene in the wider debates around health inequalities and social exclusion to ensure that inequalities affecting the health and wellbeing of gay men are addressed in policy development;

(2) draw on the growing body of research to stimulate debate with and among policy makers around the impact of social factors in shaping gay men's experience of health and illness, including HIV, mental health, chronic illness, etc;

(3) stimulate debate within the gay communities around the impact of inequalities among gay men, based on experiences of e.g. age, class, disability, ethnicity, HIV status, national origin, etc;

(4) stimulate debate within the gay communities around the impact of homophobia;

(5) participate in joint activity with other networks e.g. men's health networks, lesbian health networks




Terms of reference

GMHN shall:

(a) be open to anyone who agrees to the Values Statement of GMHN who is willing to lobby to promote the health and wellbeing of gay men;

(b) facilitate the development of networking around gay men's health throughout the UK;

(c) meet as a group twice a year;

(d) elect a working group to co-ordinate the network and facilitate information exchanges between members.
